چکیده

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is the most important natural (NOM) fraction which reacts with chlorine to form harmful trihalomethanes (THMs) in water bodies. The characteristics of DOM could be affected by land use catchment, hence comprehensive study understand body important. This was conducted two watersheds different upper stream determine: (1) characteristics, total (TOM), and quality quantity based on optical absorption properties; (2) fluorescence dissolved (FDOM) compounds; (3) TOM relationships; (4) THMs forming potential (THMFP) both watersheds. Samples were collected from Cimahi Cijanggel Rivers are dominated settlements plantations, respectively. Water determined pH, electroconductivity (EC), nitrite, nitrate unfiltered filtered samples. characterized chemical oxygen demand (COD) chromophoric (CDOM) parameters (A254, A355, A3/4), compounds as FDOM compounds. measured nitrate, nitrite settlements-impacted watershed greater than those plantations-impacted watershed. main settlement-impacted river tryptophan microbial byproduct (T1) aromatic protein (T2), fulvic acid (A), humic (C). Meanwhile, T1, A, C. THMFP detected rivers

Photochemical andmicrobial alteration of dissolved organic matter in temperate headwater streams associated with different land use

[1] Photochemical and microbial transformations of DOM were evaluated in headwater streams draining forested and human-modified lands (pasture, cropland, and urban development) by laboratory incubations. Changes in DOC concentrations, DOC isotopic signatures, and DOM fluorescence properties were measured to assess the amounts, sources, ages, and properties of reactive and refractory DOM under t...

Effects of land use on the degradability of dissolved organic matter in three watersheds of the Plum Island Sound estuary.

(Valiela et al., unpub. data) and possess different amounts of surrounding salt marsh. Ten sites at each estuary were sampled with an Eckman dredge (0.15 m*) at the beginning of each month in all estuaries and at intervening 2-week intervals in Jehu and Hamblin Ponds. Samples were sorted by species, dried, and weighed. Nitrogen loading and salt marsh area showed no relationship (P for regressio...

Characteristics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in leachate with different landfill ages.

The main objective of the study was to investigate the characteristics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in leachate with different landfill ages through the chemical, spectroscopic, and elemental analysis. Humic acid (HA), fulvic acid (FA), and hydrophilic (HyI) fractions were isolated and purified by the XAD-8 resin combined with the cation exchange resin method. The analytical results of flu...

Fluorescence characteristics and biodegradability of dissolved organic matter in forest and wetland soils from coastal temperate watersheds in southeast Alaska

Understanding how the concentration and chemical quality of dissolved organic matter (DOM) varies in soils is critical because DOM inXuences an array of biological, chemical, and physical processes. We used PARAFAC modeling of excitation–emission Xuorescence spectroscopy, speciWc UV absorbance (SUVA254) and biodegradable dissolved organic carbon (BDOC) incubations to investigate the chemical qu...

Use of ESI-FTICR-MS to Characterize Dissolved Organic Matter in Headwater Streams Draining Forest-Dominated and Pasture-Dominated Watersheds

Electrospray ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (ESI-FTICR-MS) has proven to be a powerful technique revealing complexity and diversity of natural DOM molecules, but its application to DOM analysis in grazing-impacted agricultural systems remains scarce. In the present study, we presented a case study of using ESI-FTICR-MS in analyzing DOM from four headwater...
